Campus Rec
Campus Rec is the program that is housed in the Student Rec Center. The new Rec Center will be available in phases to students throughout the 2009 school year.
Currently, students can access the Campus Rec programs through three main avenues:
- Using the Peter Stott Center to exercise, swim, rock climb, play sports, or take a class;
- Joining a Rec Club by visiting Smith Union 47 (located in the basement, next to the bowling alley);
- Using the outdoor program (located in Smith Union 47A) to rent outdoor gear, take a trip, or learn an outdoor skill.
We are very proud that our program offers something for everybody; from the student looking to learn how to
begin an exercise program to the skilled person who wants to kayak. We will meet you at your level so you can fully participate.
Campus Rec provides broad opportunities for students to supplement their classroom experience by creating an environment where quality recreation and wellness programs inspire, educate, and empower individuals to be positive contributors to Portland State and the community as a whole. We do this by helping students to do the following:
- Exercise
- Get outdoors
- Swim
- Get healthy
- Play sports
- Learn to lead
- Learn to participate
How Does This Help You Succeed?
Recreation opportunities have been proven to be beneficial to students. Students who regularly participate in Campus Rec programs have been found to have higher GPAs than those who don’t participate, and, as a result, these students tend to stay in school and are more likely to graduate—the ultimate goal for all of us at the university.
How Do You Get Involved?
The best way is to use the Campus Rec website to find out about upcoming events and opportunities that interest you.
